Digestive System
The digestive system is an organ system in the body in which a set of organs work together in order to convert food into energy and basic nutrients. The general function of this organ system is digesting and breaking down food, absorbing important nutrients that the body needs, and eliminating harmful chemicals. Food passes through a long tube inside the body known as the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The alimentary canal consists of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, small intestines, and large intestines. There are several important accessory organs that help your body digest food.
